6.7 Powerstroke Downpipe and Delete Pipe Fitment FAQ

Most fitment questions we get on the 6.7L Powerstroke come down to two parts: the downpipe and the delete pipe. Which years need a new downpipe? Will the delete pipe fit my cab and box? Why does my 2023 need extra parts? This FAQ answers those questions for 2011-2026 Ford F250, F350 and F450 trucks so you can order the right Polar Diesel parts the first time.

Off-road and competition use only. Polar Diesel delete pipes, downpipes and full exhaust systems are built for off-road and race use. They are not intended for use on public roads or highways, and they require aftermarket tuning. Check the rules where you live before you buy or install.

What does the downpipe do on a 6.7 Powerstroke?

The downpipe is the first section of exhaust after the turbo. It carries exhaust from the turbo outlet down to the rest of the system. On 2020 and newer trucks, Ford uses a multi-piece stamped turbo elbow with fairly bulky packaging.

The Polar Diesel 2020-2026 Powerstroke 6.7L Downpipe replaces that factory piece with a high-flow 3.5" turbo elbow and a 4" downpipe, with a billet turbo flange and exhaust connection. It's built from T409 stainless. A 304SS polished version is also available if you want the polished look under the hood.

Which years need the Polar Diesel downpipe?

This is the big one, so here's the short version by year range:

  • 2011-2019 6.7L Powerstroke: Polar Diesel exhausts and the delete pipe connect to the factory downpipe. You don't need a Polar downpipe.
  • 2020-2022 6.7L Powerstroke: The Polar downpipe is optional. It mates with Polar Diesel exhaust kits of the same year range and is a good upgrade over the factory elbow, but it isn't required.
  • 2023-2026 6.7L Powerstroke: The Polar downpipe is required. Every Polar Diesel exhaust option for these trucks, including the delete pipe, needs downpipe part number PD-1-13236000 to mate up correctly.

If you own a 2023-2026 truck, the easiest way to get it right is to order one of the packages that already include the downpipe (see below).

Will the Polar Diesel delete pipe fit my truck?

The Polar Diesel 2011-2026 Powerstroke 6.7L Delete Pipe replaces the DPF and CAT section of the factory exhaust with a T409 stainless pipe. It uses pre-bent hangers, stainless lap joint clamps and precise flanges for a clean bolt-in fit. Here's how it lines up with different configurations:

  • SuperCab and crew cab pickups, 2011-2026 F250/F350/F450: No modification is called out.
  • Regular cab: Fits, but must be modified.
  • Cab and chassis: Will not fit.
  • 2020 and newer: May need a single cut at the back of the front connection pipe, after the hanger. The factory DPF length varies on these trucks, so the cut lets you match your truck.
  • 2023-2026: Requires the Polar downpipe (PD-1-13236000) as covered above.

What packages are available for 2023-2026 trucks?

Because 2023-2026 trucks need the downpipe either way, Polar Diesel bundles it with the rest of the system:

Note that the 2023-2026 downpipe-back exhaust packages are listed for automatic transmission trucks only, will not fit cab and chassis models, and must be modified for regular cab. You can see everything for these years in the 2023-2025 Powerstroke exhaust collection.

What about full exhaust systems on 2011-2022 trucks?

The Polar Diesel 2011-2026 Powerstroke 6.7L 5" Exhaust and the 4" version run from a 4" downpipe connection back to the tailpipe with a single side exit. Fitment follows the same rules as the delete pipe: no cab and chassis, modification needed for regular cab, and 2023-2026 trucks need the Polar downpipe. Depending on your box and cab, one cut may be needed to set the overall length, and that also applies to systems optioned with a muffler.

On 2020-2022 trucks, pairing a full exhaust with the Polar downpipe gives you a complete Polar Diesel system from the turbo back. Browse the 2020-2022 Powerstroke exhaust collection to compare options.

Do I need tuning?

Yes. Delete pipes, downpipes and full exhaust systems on the 6.7L Powerstroke require aftermarket tuning and modifications to run properly. If you'd rather not piece it together, a Polar Diesel Power Package bundles hard parts with tuning for your year range, such as the 2020-2022 and 2023-2026 6.7L Powerstroke packages.

I want to keep my DPF. What should I buy instead?

Go with a DPF-back system. It replaces only the tubing, muffler and tip behind the factory aftertreatment, so the DPF stays on the truck. Our DPF-back exhaust buyer guide explains the options, and the 6.7 Powerstroke DPF-back install guide walks through the install.

How hard is the install?

Polar Diesel delete pipes, downpipes and exhausts are designed with an easy, hassle-free install in mind. Start with the 6.7 Powerstroke exhaust install guide, then download the official PDF from the Polar Diesel installation guides hub. Let the exhaust cool completely before you start, and check clearances and clamps after your first drive off-road.

Quick fitment checklist before you order

  1. Confirm your model year: 2011-2019, 2020-2022 or 2023-2026.
  2. Confirm your cab and box. Cab and chassis trucks are not supported, and regular cab trucks need modification.
  3. On 2023-2026 trucks, make sure the downpipe is in your cart, or buy a package that includes it.
  4. On 2023-2026 downpipe-back exhaust packages, confirm your truck is an automatic.
  5. Plan your tuning before the parts arrive.
